Things to consider when purchasing a dining table
There are many things to consider when deciding on the right table for you. I hope some of the following is helpful.
- The shape of your table?
The shape of the table you want, can be a personal preference or a space saving consideration.
- How many people do you want to seat?
We all want our guests to feel comfortable and relaxed. The following is an example of the size of table required to seat the numbers of people comfortably (in cm. for a rectangular table).
Seat 4: 120 x 76
Seat 6: 180 x 76
Seat 8: 240 x 100
Seat 10: 300 x 100
Seat 12: 360 x 110
If you only need to seat a larger number of people every now and again e.g. Christmas or a special occasion, you might like to choose a wider table that can accomodate two people at each end rather than one.
- The size of your room or space?
The size of your room will really dictate what size table you can comfortably fit into the space as you don’t want to crowd a room with too large a table. My advice is to draw a scale model of the room and table (to scale) and place the table into it. This will help to make sure you have enough room around the table for your guests to find their seat and to be serve them.
- Your chair size?
Most tables are between 73-75cm high. I personally think that a 73cm high table is the perfect height however, it may not suit all chairs.
